Under 17 Hurling League – Division 1
Cushendall 1-12 Sarsfields 1-13
A goal in the last seconds by substitute Emmet Fraser gave Sarsfields victory over Cushendall in Sunday’s U17 Hurling League game at Pairc Mhuir, Cushendall. When midfielder Joshua Schnell sent over a point from play four minutes from the end of normal time it appeared the Ruairis had done enough to seal the win, but Sarsfields never gave up the fight, and their efforts were rewarded when Fraser grabbed a goal with practically the last puc of the game.
There was little between the sides during the first half but when Joshua Schnell hit two points in a row midway through the half Cushendall were 0-9 to 0-5 ahead. However Sarsfields finished the half with five points on the trot from Enda McCartan (2), Anthony McGarrigle (2) and Brendan Jackson to lead by 0-10 to 0-9 at half time.
It was score for score for much of the second half asJoseph McNaughton, Callagh Mooney, Joseph McLaughlin and Josh Schnell found the target for Cushendall while Enda McCartan (2), Andrew McStay and Emmet Fraser answered for the Paddies. When Schnell sent one over with just five minutes left for play it appeared the home side had done enough, but Frasers late strike pulled the rug from under them and sent Sarsfields home with both league points.
