North Antrim U15 Hurling – McMullan Cup
Cushendall 3-21 Loughgiel 3-7
Cushendall won their opening game in the McMullan Cup round-robin when they beat Loughgiel at Pairc Mhuir Cushendall on Monday evening. The Cushendall boys certainly had their radar working as they amassed a total of 3-21 against a Loughgiel team who were missing a few regulars.
Cushendall started with six points without reply in the opening twelve minutes through Thomas McLaughlin, Nicholas McLaughlin (2), Fintan Bradley (2) and Caodhan Scullion.
Liam Glackin got Loughgiel’s opening score in the fifteenth minute, and though Oran McCambridge cancelled that one out at the other end, when Glackin fired to the Cushendall net on 24 minutes there was suddenly just four points between the teams, despite the home team’s dominance.
However when Fintan Bradley came back with a goal and a point for Cushendall they were back in charge and even though Glackin got his team’s second goal another scoring burst from the Ruairis gave them a five point lead at the break. (1-14 to 2-3)
When Loughgiel stated the second half with two points from Ronan Fitzgerald there was just three points between the sides but Cushendll were able to respond and they hit eight points in row, before Finton McKillop grabbed their second goal. Loughgiel now had a mountain to climb but a goal from Conan Johnston and a point from Ronan Fitzgerald gave them brief hope, but Cushendall finished strongly and when Oran McCambridge got their third goal they were 14 clear at the end.
