Eamon McCaughan nudged Armoy a bit further in front with a neat point but Eamon Laverty responded with a nice point of his own. Lee Forsythe then knocked over a free after a foul by the Ruairi Og rearguard. Eoin Laverty again dispatched a free for the ‘Dall after loose tackling by Armoy. Lee Forsythe banged over a point from play but this was cancelled out by a good score by Eunan McKillop to leave the half time score:
Armoy – 0-06 Cushendall 0-05
Cushendall needed to come out on fire at the start of the 2nd half, but it was Armoy who got the 1st score when Lee Forsythe banged over a free after some poor defending by Cushendall. Then came the shift in power, Eoin Laverty won a ball around midfield, fed Eunan McKillop, who went on a solo run, he broke 3 tackles and handed the ball off to Andrew Delargy, he in turn squared the ball to Dominic ‘Kong’ Delargy and he lifted the net.
Cushendalls tails were up and when Eoin Laverty won the ball around midfield and gave the ball in to Kong, he lifted the net again and Cushendall were up by 4. Trevor Linton and Conor O’ Kane and Lee Forsythe from a dead ball hit a point each for Armoy and left the minimum in the game, with it reaching the last 10 minutes.
Aidan Delargy stretched the ‘Dall’s lead to 2 points with a neat score, but this was cancelled out by Armoy’s Conor O’ Kane but Eoin Laverty knocked over a 60 m free and in the next attack, Cushendall forced a 65 and Eoin Laverty duly converted. Trevor Linton pegged 1 point back for Armoy after Conor McAlister made a majestic save from his goal-bound pile driver but that man again Eoin Laverty blasted over a 40 m free to leave 3 between the teams into injury time.
Armoy had to drop the ball in but some heroic defending from the Cushendall rearguard repelled Armoy and when Thomas McGilligan blew the full time whistle Ruairi Og had won on a full time score line:
Glen Rovers Armoy 0-12 Ruairi Og Cushendall 2-09
Conor McAlister in goals was flawless, in defence Odhran Scullion, Stephen Walsh and Paddy Blaney were best. Paddy Burke worked like a Trojan in midfield and up top Eamon Laverty, Dominic ‘Kong’ Delargy and Eunan McKillop were best but for me Eoin Laverty eclipsed them all: hewas sublime, his work rate was top notch, he had a hand in both goals and knocked over 6 frees over the hour as well.
