Darragh Cup Final 2012 Preview
This year’s Darragh Cup final sees current holders Cushendall put their title on the line against Glengormley side St. Enda’s. Cushendall qualified for the final unbeaten with landslide victories against Loughgiel, Ballycastle, Glenshesk and Dunloy with their only tough game in the competition to date a 4 point win over St. Enda’s in Hightown. Ruairi Og fans have been delighted with their teams performances this year and rookie manager Karl Mc Keegan has certainly instilled a determination and will to win into his young charges. Paddy Burke has been a revelation this year at centre back and he has been well supported at the back by Eoin Mc Manus, Fergal Mc Killop and Cormac Mc Alister. Eoghan Campbell has also been impressive at mid-field however he is an injury doubt for this game with a dead leg. Up front the attack has been racking up some impressive scores with all six forwards regularly on the score sheet. Christy Mc Naughton regularly posts big scores and his is also a reliable free taker. Ryan Mc Cambridge has also given some marquee performances with his high fielding and accurate point taking becoming a regular feature of matches. Cormac Mc Clafferty also carries a significant goal threat as St. John’s recently found out too their cost. Add to this the intelligent play of Alex Delargy and the hardworking effort of Conrad Mc Donnell and Eoghan Allen and you can begin to see why Ruairi Og have swept all before them so far this season. However St. Enda’s will be no pushover, since they joined the North Antrim competitions they have been competitive at all grades and it would be a huge achievement for their club if they were to win this competition. Ruairi Og must be on their guard but if they perform to their capabilities then they are more than good enough to retain a competition which holds a special place in the hearts of all Ruairi Og people.
