Ruairi Og Z Squad got their 2013 season off to a winning start with victory over Glenarm. Boosted by an early goal from John Carson and points from Laurence Mc Keegan, Jack Mc Allister and Carson they changed ends 1-4 to 1-3 to the good.
However in the second half Ruairi Og played into a stiff breeze, the men in maroon and white made light of the conditions and with Eamon Mc Auley and James Mc Auley bossing proceedings they put daylight between the teams. Jack Mc Allister scored a great goal on his Z Squad debut and Ruairi Og added points from John Carson frees as well as points from play from Dermot Mc Convery and Laurence Mc Keegan. Glenarm were offering only token resistance and Cushendall put the icing on the cake in the closing stages when Dermot Mc Convery latched onto a lose ball and finished to the net to leave the final score Ruairi Og 3-10 Glenarm 1-7.
How they played: Paddy Mooney and James Mc Auley both hurled well at the back, Eamon Mc Auley put in a strong shift in midfield and up front John Carson and Jack Mc Allister always looked dangerous but my man of the match goes to Jimmy Mooney who gave a great display in the unfamiliar position of full back.
